The VW T1, officially known as the VW Type 2 T1 and also commonly referred to as the “Bulli,” is a light commercial vehicle produced by Volkswagenwerk GmbH (from 1960: AG). It was the first model in the VW Bus lineup, officially marketed as the VW Transporter and internally designated as Type 2. After the VW Beetle (Type 1), the VW Bus represents the second civilian model series of the manufacturer and continues to this day in the form of the VW T7.
Development of the Transporter began in 1949, and it reached production readiness in 1950. During its production period, the model was a market leader and is regarded as a symbol of the German economic miracle. It also served as the basis for some of the first motorhomes.
