From this year on, we don’t produce specifically assigned monthly pins and magnets any longer. Instead, we have selected assorted donation pins and magnets - the most popular ones - which we offer permanently. In the beginning of each year, we will estimate how many we will sell in that year and divide the sum by 12. Each month, one of the charitable institutions which the buyer’s community has chosen, will receive an equal amount. That seems to fairer than our previous system. At the end of each fiscal year, we will check whether we sold less or more than calculated and take that into account for the forecast of the next year. From the very beginning our house was meant to be a place to live, laugh and mourn. We provide help and support for children, teenagers and young adults with terminal diseases as well as their families in times of need. Unfortunately, official funding covers only 50% of the overall costs for care, support, housing of our guests and their families, thus we depend on fundraising for the remaining 50%. Since this year, we no longer release monthly pins/magnets, but instead offer a wide variety of especially popular and permanently available donation pins/magnets. At the beginning of each year, we estimate how many will be sold and divide the total by 12. Each month, an institution chosen by you receives the same amount – making the distribution much fairer. At the end of the year, we review whether there was a surplus or deficit and take this into account for the following year. The proceeds of €10,000.00 go to: SOS Children’s Village HamburgI, Frederik Braun, personally visited the SOS Children’s Village in Hamburg with my children a few days ago and was deeply moved by the work being done there. Even a relatively wealthy city like Hamburg has – and unfortunately still needs – an SOS Children’s Village. In the Dulsberg district, the “Harbor for Families” provides housing for three SOS families as well as a family center. The open-door concept of the family center ensures that families have easy access to educational and counseling services. Currently, there is a significant shortage of places in Hamburg for children and young people who cannot grow up with their parents. This new facility offers them a strong start in life. In the SOS families, children and young people are cared for in a family-like environment and can grow up together – even with their siblings – in a safe and supportive home.www.sos-kinderdorf.de ALL proceeds (including our production costs) are donated entirely to this charitable cause. A rescue helicopter costs approximately €4–5 million, and due to European regulations, older models had to be replaced by 2009. The Björn Steiger Foundation played a key role in establishing the emergency rescue system in Germany.
