Herpa 572545 Philippine Air Lines Douglas DC-6B - PI-C295 „Magellan’s Cross / Cruz de Magallanes“ 1:200

Philippine Airlines erwarb 1948 ihre ersten zwei DC-6 und setzte sie auf der Strecke von Manila nach San Francisco ein. Weil nur noch drei statt bei der DC-4 zuvor vier Tankstopps notwendig waren, konnte sie die Flugdauer von 41 auf 30 Stunden verkürzen. 1952 erhielt Philippine Airlines dann zur Verstärkung ihrer Transpazifik-Routen diese DC-6B mit dem leicht gestreckten Rumpf, getauft auf „Magellan’s Cross / Cruz de Magellanes“. Dieses heute noch existierende Holzkreuz soll von spanischen Entdeckern unter der Leitung von Ferdinand Magellan bei der Ankunft in Cebu auf den Philippinen im Jahr 1521 gesetzt worden sein.
